Why should I visit the dentist regularly?

Most of us ignore our oral health and allow problems to develop before we visit the dentist.

There are many reasons to remain under the regular care of your dentists-

Dental problems when corrected at the earliest are easy, less complicated and relatively painless.Regular dental check-ups dramatically decrease the potential for oral health problems becoming serious. They are also cost effective compared to paying for expensive major dental work like tooth replacements, crowns and gum repair.

To avoid toothache and discomfort– Tooth pain is most often caused from cavities/decay forming. Once a cavity reaches the stage where it is painful then root canal treatment (or possibly tooth loss) is more likely. Regular check-ups ensure that earlydecay can be identified and treated.

To keep away from bad breath and bleeding gums– Bleeding gums create cavities and inflamed gums, ultimately filling up with bacteria that eat away the teeth and bone resorption, causing tooth loss. Visiting the dentist regularly can ensure your gum health is properly maintained and early treatment prevents serious problems developing.

How Often Should You Visit the Dentist?

Both adults and children should visit the dentist regularly, as often as they recommend. For those with certain medical conditions, our dental team may want to see you more often.

It is also important to remember that certain types of medication may impact oral health too, for instance, patients who have ‘dry mouth’ caused by medication may be more likely to get tooth decay and will need to visit their dental team more often.

At Ryde Dental Family, we advise a six- monthly comprehensive check up and clean which includes a check-up of your teeth and gums and also covers basic treatments including scaling, polishing, application of fluoride and x-rays. You will also receive advice on preventing dental problems and improving your brushing technique and habits.

For patients covered for dental, under aprivate health fund the comprehensive check up and clean is Free of any Gap payments i.e. they don’t need to pay any additional out of pocket expense.

For patients without PrivateHealth fund, the comprehensive examination, clean, fluoride and x-rays, all are done at $199 (with OPG-$249).

Visiting the dentist should be a regular part of your schedule, just like a proper oral health routine.
